Empty Cupboard Special

The image above was taken of a 'final stretch' meal.  I had onions left, and flour and yeast.  I also had some corn starch, lots of seasonings and sunflower oil.  So!

I made pizza dough.  Chopped and tossed the onion in oil, salted and seasoned it.  Browned them perfectly, threw a tbsp of cornstarch in a little water (1/3 c or so) and added that to the onion to make a little sauce.  Spread the dough, fill half with the onion stuff.  Fold, crimp, brush with oil and bake.  3 dollars worth of ingredients turned into a meal that did NOT feel like an 'oh no, I'm out of everything' meal.

The recipes you will find here don't use any expensive ingredients, are made with stuff almost everyone has around most of the time, and are not complicated to put together.  Being broke should not mean being trapped with processed and canned, depressing food.  A "back to basics" philosophy has improved not only our health, but our quality of life.
