We now live in an age when even the poorest among us can access a body of knowledge so vast that not all of the libraries of history combined could equal the volume of information held within the web of the Internet. Less and less are we affected by location, financial status, language, or disability when it comes to being able to feast on the accumulated wealth of mankind, much of it freely available.
I have laid eyes on the likenesses of painted works of such poignant beauty that I have wept; I would not ever have experienced them were they not free to peruse, and internationally available for said perusal.
I've acquired skills by the good works of the open source community. Skills that I never could have afforded to learn in a conventional educational setting.
We are no longer trapped in our little slice of the world, under our piece of sky. We can fly with the satellites and see far away lands without so much as a whisper of effort.
